How to Select Keywords
- Open the Google Keyword Tool See Frame 1.

Enter your webpage or article subject KEYWORD (web design), fill in the Captcha characters and click the
Get Keyword Ideas
button. See Frame 2 & 3. - A list of popular keywords will be displayed. See Frame 4.

Match Type
asExact

Click on
Global Monthly Search Volume
to sort in descending order. See Frame 6. -
Note the most relevant keywords (per your subject), having at least 1000 hits under
Global Monthly Search Volume
column. This is your HITS -
Notice
Advertiser Competition
(second column). Eliminate keywords that have highAdvertiser Competition
(Green bar is full/almost full and white portion is less). - List all your keywords (a spreadsheet helps) See Frame 7.
- Open Google's homepage See Frame 8.

Enter your keyword in QUOTATION MARKS and then click
Google Search
. See Frame 8. - Note the number of results. This is your competition These are the total number of web pages Google indexed containing your keyword. See Frame 9.
- The RATIO is calculated by dividing the COMPETITION by the HITS See Frame 10.
- Use the keyword if the RATIO is under 50.
- Use 1-4 keywords per web page keeping the keyword density between 3-4.5 percent. No more.
- Include at least the primary keyword in the web page (or article) META TAG TITLE
- META TAG DESCRIPTION
- META TAG KEYWORDS
- HEADER TAG h1 and subsequent h2 headers
- first sentence of the body
- first and last paragraphs
- and throughout the body
